Theodore R. (Ted) Frank, 83, of New Bedford, died Dec. 11 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. He was the husband of Margaret (Peggy) (Tomlinson) Frank, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Born on Martha’s Vineyard Island, the youngest child of Manuel A. and Maria Teresa (Gomes dos Santos) Frank, he lived in numerous places along the Eastern Seaboard before returning home to Massachusetts in 1996.

A 1953 graduate of Tisbury High School, Mr. Frank served honorably in the U.S. Army in Göppingen, Germany as an MP during the Korean War. He worked for Tilton Lumber Company until 1967, when he moved his growing family to the mainland and found success managing various lumber companies over the next several decades.

Ted was happiest on the water, on the golf course or on the road. His life on the Island instilled a love of the ocean in him that he never lost. He was a scratch golfer and played at that level for many years. He enjoyed being behind the wheel and would frequently take his family for Sunday drives after mass, stopping at historical markers and scenic overlooks along the way. He was generous with friends and family and had a laugh that could fill a room.

He is survived by his wife; his four children, Matthew W. of Fort Myers, Fla., Michael J. of Holland, Mass. Maureen A. of Manassas, Va. and John P. of Belton, Texas; his eight grandchildren as well as his last surviving sibling, his sister, Connie (Frank) Iadicicco.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, please visit saundersdwyer.com.
