Hazel C. (Pat) Pembrook, age 104, died Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oak Bluffs.

Pat was born in New Bedford to Ernest and Mabel Comery, who frequented Martha’s Vineyard for many years with their two daughters before purchasing a cottage in the Camp Ground in 1944.

As a young girl, she was an accomplished ballet and tap dancer and won a number of awards in the greater Boston area. She graduated from Lynn English High School where her future husband Walter also graduated. They were married in 1939. She was employed as an accountant and bookkeeper before and during WWII. Following the war, where Walter served three years in the Army in European campaigns, they owned and operated commercial laundries in Melrose and Somerville. She later assisted him as a golf equipment representative for New England.

After moving frequently for Walter’s job promotions in the tile industry, she resided in Denver, Colo. Dallas, Tex., Canton, Ohio, New York city, Memphis, Tenn., and Orlando, Fla. They retired in 1980. She greatly enjoyed playing golf with her family, gardening and socializing with her many friends and neighbors. Pat was a six-month resident of Martha’s Vineyard since 1974, spending the winter months in Apopka, Fla. She was predeceased by Walter, her husband of 62 years. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Mary Pembrook of West Palm Beach, Fla., Wayne and Carol Pembrook of Middletown, R.I., two granddaughters and three great grandchildren. Her family is especially grateful to the wonderful staff at Windemere who cared for her in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tabernacle Restoration Fund, Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, P.O. Box 1685, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557. A memorial service will be held next summer at Trinity Church in the Camp Ground.
