Evelyn Marie Simpson died peacefully on Feb. 26 at Windemere Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Evelyn was born in Vineyard Haven on Jan. 28, 1944 to the late Fannie and Manuel C Sylvia.

She worked as a housekeeper for many years at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and at local hotels. She enjoyed knitting and hosting the weekly knitting group at her house. She liked to go out to dinner and attend the dock dances at the Edgartown wharf.

She was predeceased by her husband Ellsworth W. Simpson Jr. She is survived by her siblings Agnes Bryant of Oak Bluffs, Manuel C Sylvia Jr. of Aquinnah and Diane Jackson of Edgartown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven on March 30 at 11 a.m.

Donations can be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home are handling the service.
