Dorothy J. (Clark) Hunter of Forest Circle, Martha’s Vineyard and Warwick, R.I., died on April 16 at Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown, R.I. She was 89.

Born in Attleboro, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Elsie (Ballou) Clark, she spent summers on the Vineyard since childhood, and a majority of her time there since retirement.

Dottie taught in the Warwick public schools for 31 years, retiring in 1989. She earned her bachelor and master’s degrees at the University of Rhode Island, and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was an accomplished watercolor artist.

She is survived by a son, Clark L. Hunter of North Kingstown, R.I.; and six grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Nancie L. Hunter.

Visiting hours were held on April 23 in Warwick.

Interment will be private in Oak Bluffs.
