Rosemary F. Csapo, of Oak Bluffs, died at home on July 19 with children and grandchildren at her side. She was 89.

Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she lived in Fairfield, Conn. and Martha’s Vineyard before making Boynton Beach, Fla., her home for the last 20 years. Her family brought her back to the Vineyard to be closer to family near the end of her life.

No matter where she called home, Rosemary’s life was highlighted by lifelong relationships, laughter, beach walks, clamming, challenging scrabble matches, racquet sports, league bowling and fishing. She lived surrounded by the scent of lilacs, the sound of pinkletinks and the cool of ocean breezes.

After raising her six children, along with assorted unofficial others, Rosemary worked for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services as a home health aide and formed strong bonds with many of her clients. Dorothy West of Oak Bluffs and James Houlahan of Edgartown were among her most cherished friendships.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Csapo. She is survived by her son, Edward J. Csapo Jr., of Colorado; daughters Kimberlee Csapo-Ebert of Bridgeport, Conn., Billie Jean Sullivan, Elizabeth Greene and Tammy Csapo of Martha’s Vineyard and Bridgett diBonaventura of Fairfield, Conn.; brother Bob Pistey of Fairfield, Conn., and 10 grandchildren.

Donations can be made to Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard, PO Box 1748, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
