I met Will at the Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, Colorado where we both attended boarding school. The year must have been 1969. My senior project was to learn the electric guitar and play in a band. Will was already an accomplished musician at that time, and he agreed to teach me. He exhibited great kindness and patience toward me. I am still playing the guitar today (mostly acoustic), and still use many of the techniques and "licks" he taught me. We both went on to attend Colorado College (I graduated and he dropped out to pursue his music). I had the privilege to hear his band "Magic Music" perform there. I believe they opened for Leo Kottke. I reconnected with him at his home/studio in Vineyard Haven about 20 years ago. He was the same kind, relaxed, cheerful Will I had known. I believe he was teaching at Berklee College of Music at that time.
