Charles F. Waters 4th died at home in Poinciana, Fla., on Sept. 28.
He was born in Edgartown on Oct. 5, 1926, son of the late Charles F. Waters 3rd and the late Mildred Hillman Waters. He was a direct descendant of Governor Thomas Mayhew, nine Mayflower passengers, and two Edgartown whaling captains. He was the great-grandson of Judge Beriah T. Hillman and the grandson of Capt. Horace O. Hillman.
He served in three wars, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War, in four branches of the service Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, and Army.
He married Violet M. Cleveland in 1947 in Vineyard Haven. They had seven children: Jane, Charles 5th, Violet, Darlene, Judy, Patricia, and Michael. He married Ruth M. Woods in 1978 in Meriden, Conn.
He was predeceased by his first wife, their son, Charles 5th and four sisters: Louise, Charlotte, Sheila, and Ruth. He is survived by his second wife; his remaining six children; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Horace; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Living Water Fellowship in Kissimmee, Fla., on Oct. 5.
Interment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be scheduled.
