Florencio John (Sonny) Mendez of Woodside Village in Oak Bluffs died on Jan. 17 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 78.

Visitation in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs will be held on Friday, Jan. 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by the Rev. Michael Nagle at 11:30 a.m.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven with military honors provided by the Veterans of Martha’s Vineyard.
