Lawrence E. (Larry) Bombara, died Sept. 20 at home in Douglas. He was 70.

Born in Webster in 1950, he was the son of Joseph R. and Margaret M. (Madden) Bombara, and lived in Douglas all his life.

He graduated from the Douglas High School and received his engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. A dedicated public works employee, he began with the Douglas highway department in high school and went on to become the first superintendent of public works for the town of Uxbridge, retiring in 2008 after serving more than 23 years. He then established Lorinc Consulting, primarily offering assistance to the Cape and Islands and especially the Oak Bluffs water district.

He was active in many public works organizations. One of his proudest moments was organizing a group of his public works family from New England and traveling to Bay Saint Lewis to help rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.

A woodworker, boater and traveler, he loved to throw a party for family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Jeanne (Forget) Bombara; his daughter Pamela Johnson and her husband Kurt; two grandchildren; a brother Dennis M. Bombara, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sept. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jackman Funeral Home in Douglas. A mass will be held Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Uxbridge. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
