Steve Rogers died recently at his home near Winter Park, Fla.

He was born in 1946 in Fairhaven. A musician, photographer and sailor, he was also known as Lens. He studied to be a veterinarian and turned to music, forming a band called the Overwhelming Minority and studied with Doc Watson in Provincetown. One album was produced and there were many gigs in the 1970s. He played banjo and guitar and loved his Martins, which he played and traded.

Outgoing, irreverent and creative, he will be missed. His love of animals was a constant.

He had lived on Martha’s Vineyard since 1995, and had worked for many years as a building manager for Larry Levine in Vineyard Haven.

He is survived by his dog Jake and his many Island friends, and brother Cole Blodgett.
