Linda Toomey-Steves Gundersen of Wallingford, Conn. died peacefully at home on July 1. She was 61.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1960 in Ridgewood, N.J. She moved around throughout her life until settling in West Haven, Conn. There she met and married the love of her life, Bob Gundersen, at the First Congregational Church of West Haven.

She was a registered nurse and worked at Connecticut Children’s Place in East Windsor, Conn, and also as a drug and alcohol counselor. She volunteered for the New Haven Rape Crisis Center and was a member of Golden Rod Chapter number 34, Order of the Eastern Star. She loved her birds, making people smile and traveling to Martha’s Vineyard. She will be missed greatly by those who knew her.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her father Richard Steves and stepmother Susan Toomey; brothers and sisters Liz Toomey, Kevin Hall, Woody Steves, Sean Steves, Laurie Steves, Katie Jordan and James Steves; eight nieces and nephews, an uncle, several aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her biological father John Toomey; her mother Nancy Griebell Steves; brothers John, Mark Tagariello; and her sister Susan Barrett.

A memorial service was held on July 10 at Keenan Funeral Home in West Haven, Conn., followed by interment at Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven. A memorial service will be held on Martha’s Vineyard in the fall on a date to be determined.
