Kathleen Pond Baptiste-Maki of Vineyard Haven and New Bedford died peacefully at home on July 16. She was 70.

She was born June 2, 1951 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital to the late George (Snookie) Baptiste Jr. and Ruth Carolyn Pond Baptiste. Kathleen worked as a C.N.A. for most of her life.

She enjoyed taking long walks, cooking, taking care of her many pets and reading, especially medical and prayer books.

She is survived by her two sisters, Bonnie Baptiste-Bassett of Hinsdale N.H. and Diane Amaral of Chicopee; her children, Kimberly A. Allen-Goodell of Wallingford, Vt., Kasi L. Ferro of New Bedford, Kerri D. Ferro of Falmouth, and Gussie J. Baptiste-Maki of New Bedford; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, including her lifelong best friend Diane Ferreira Estrella of Martha’s Vineyard. She was predeceased by her son Jesse J. Ferro and brother George P. Baptiste 3rd.
