Lizanne Hardegen Jones of Longport, N.J. died peacefully on Thursday, August 12 at her home by the bay. She was 80.

She was born on June 6, 1941 in Philadelphia to Robert Paul Hardegen Sr. and Anne Elizabeth Butler Hardegen, both of Philadelphia. She was a lifelong summer resident of Longport.

She graduated from Notre Dame Academy High School in Philadelphia in 1958, received her RN degree from Miseracordia Nursing School in Philadelphia in 1962, attended Rosemont College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., from 1962 to 1963, and received a bachelor’s degree in education from West Chester State College in 1964.

She married Lawrence Douglas Jones on August 14, 1965 at The Church of the Epiphany in Longport. After her marriage, Lizanne lived in Niskayuna and Albany, N.Y, raising her family. From 1972 to 1987, she spent summers at Deep Bottom Cove in West Tisbury.

She was a registered nurse in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and a realtor in New York state. Lizanne loved doing crosswords, playing Jeopardy!, and was an avid tennis player. She loved cooking and especially eating seafood, good wine and traveling. Her family will miss her cheesecake and chili sauce.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Allison Elizabeth Jones of Albany, N.Y.; son Brian Douglas Jones, of Wendell; daughter in law Heather Elizabeth Reed, formerly of Dalton, Ga.; grandsons Quentin Arthur Jones and Theodore (Teddy) Lee Jones, both of Wendell; sister Honey Hardegen Pauxtis of St. Simon’s Island, Ga.; brother Robert Paul Hardegen Jr. of Medford Lakes, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Margaret Lisa McHale.

A memorial service will be private at a later date.
