Weslley Matheus Mendes Balbino of Edgartown died unexpectedly on Feb. 2 in Falmouth. He was 25.

He born Feb. 23, 1996 in Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte in Brazil. He moved to Edgartown in 2017.

Weslley was active and loved sports. He practiced jiu jitsu and boxing, played basketball and soccer, and went mountain biking. He enjoyed reading books and practicing self-care. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family and friends.

On the Island, he tried his hand with landscaping and painting, and quickly found his true calling and passion with carpentry. He could be found on many job sites, learning and mastering the trade.

His brother asks all to remember how kind and inspiring he was. He had a beautiful smile that everyone noticed as soon as he walked in the door.

He is survived by his mother Christiane da Silva Mendes, father Weslley Ribeiro Balbino; brothers Samuel Weslley Mendes Balbino and Weslley Henrique Balbino; and sister Sther Amorin Balbino.

A service was held Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations in Oak Bluffs. He will be interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.
