Donald Averill Berube Jr. died peacefully on April 3 with his wife Jayne by his side. He was 80.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1941 to Donald and Pauline Berube of Edgartown and he grew up on the Vineyard. After graduating from Boston College, he held many positions in sales before purchasing his own business in 1981. He sold the business and retired in 2007.

He met his wife Jayne Whitley Berube when she spent a summer on the Island in 1963. They married on August 14, 1964.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed tennis, travel and good wines. He was a Paul Harris Fellow witht he Rotary Club, participated in Big Brother programs, volunteered as a tutor at a local school and donated to many charitable causes, especially those benefitting children. His favorite was Birthright of Memphis.

Don was predeceased by his parents, his brother Daniel Berube, and brother in law David Gazaille. He is survived by his loving wife Jayne; children Danton Berube, Suzanne Rorhus and spouse Arild, and David Berube; grandchildren Asher and Michelle Berube, and Katrina, Camilla and Caroline Rorhus; siblings Donna Gazaille, Sheila Biard and her spouse Tim, Brenda Beckman and her spouse Bill, David Berube and his spouse Lisa, Paula Devaney and her spouse Brian; and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial service was held on April 9 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Germantown, Tenn. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown at 2 p.m. on Nov. 25, with a reception following.
