Claire G. Paltz Haidet died on June 20. She was 90.

She was born in Boston on May 11, 1932 to Raymon and Dorothy Paltz and grew up in Vineyard Haven. After receiving her high school diploma, she graduated from a two-year secretarial school in Boston.

She met her husband, senior master sergeant Dale Haidet, while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force on Martha’s Vineyard. They married in 1954. As a military wife, she traveled and lived in many places, including Germany and Taiwan. In 1972, Dale retired from the Air Force and they moved to Satellite Beach, Fla.

Martha’s Vineyard was always home to Claire. She enjoyed wearing Island apparel and often wore a necklace with a charm the shape of the Island. She returned to be with her mother and give birth to her son, John, and visited the Island often. She subscribed to the Vineyard Gazette and kept in touch with friends who lived here, some of whom she considered family.

She enjoyed every minute she could spend with her grandchildren and especially cherished her great grandchildren Hannah and Blake. It gave her great joy to visit Martha’s Vineyard with her grandchildren in their younger ages and to watch them ride the Flying Horses. She developed a passion for the beach while living on the island and continued to enjoy the beaches in most places that she lived.

She was kind, thoughtful, generous and always positive in any situation. She will be greatly missed by all. She was predeceased by her son John and brother Raymon Paltz. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Dale Haidet, her daughter in law Nancy Haidet, grandchildren Andrew and his wife Whitney and Stephen Haidet, and two great grandchildren, Hannah and Blake.

Visitation will be held at Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, Fla. on Saturday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. after which she will be interred at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla.
