James T. (Jim) Shea of Martha’s Vineyard and Milton died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 5. He was 30.

He was the beloved son of Betty Gervasi Shea and the late James T. Shea of Milton and the loving brother of Kate Shea of Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka and Tara Smith-Houle of Quincy. Jim is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and by Emily Lowe of West Tisbury.

He was born in Dorchester and raised in Milton. He attended Boston College High School and UMass Amherst. He was an avid Red Sox fan and served as the manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Floaters softball team.

Jim was a true renaissance man. He could teach how to tile a floor, catch a fish, pick a stock, mix a drink, throw a curve, or play a chord. He enjoyed playing guitar, writing, meeting new people and spending time with his friends and cousins. He lived his life happy and free, caring, loving and engaging with everyone he met.

His energy filled the room and he will be missed deeply by all who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held at Dolan Funeral Home at 460 Granite avenue in Milton on Friday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial Mass to be celebrated at Saint Agatha Church in Milton on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs. On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the 8 a.m. Mass at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown will be held in his honor.
