Jeannette A. (Jan) Place died peacefully on Dec. 22, 2022. She was 94.

She was born in 1928 in Warwick, R.I. into a family of eight. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy in Providence, R.I.

A semi-professional singer, Jan met her husband Trueman while singing in his musical ensemble. In 1947 they married on the Vineyard and built their home in Edgartown. While True served as the manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Airport, Jan worked at the Dukes County probate court and at Edgartown National Bank. Always an avid beachgoer, she loved to spend time at Bend in the Road and South Beach for family picnics.

They vacationed annually in Florida and retired to Naples, Fla. in the 1970s. Jan got her real estate license there.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, who died in 2006. She is survived by her children, Cindy of Naples, Fla. and Steve and his wife Carole of Marstons Mills; grandsons Adam Smith and Todd Smith, granddaughters Meredith Place and Stephanie Sturtevant, and great-granddaughter Samantha Smith.

Interment will be held privately.
