Anwyl Megann Bates died Nov. 30, 2022 in Falmouth after a brief illness. She was 91.

She was born Oct 18, 1931 in St. John’s, Newfoundland to James Megann and Olive Bishop. She moved to the United States as a young woman and spent most of her life there, living in various places in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

She had a long and successful career at British Airlines and used the travel passes she earned to keep in touch with family in Newfoundland, now part of Canada.

Anwyl and her husband Lane Bates retired to Edgartown and spent many happy years near and on the water.

She is survived by her brother Harry of Newfoundland; her nieces Adele, Pat and Robin; and her nephew Jim. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lane; sister Judith Myfanwy; nephews David and James; and her niece Gillian.

Her ashes will be scattered at sea.
