Donna Maron, who loved her family and the Vineyard, died on July 19. She was 78.
She was beloved from the beginning to the end by her husband, Dr. Barry Maron. She was a devoted mother to her children, Dr. Martin S. Maron and his wife Alexandria Maron, Dr. Bradley A. Maron and his wife Dr. Jill Maron; and the grandmother of Alexis Maron, Jack Maron, Willow Maron and Bodhi Maron.
Donna was born Feb. 12, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Arthur Rest and Florence Rest and the sister of David Rest and Lynne Rest.
She grew up in Denver, Colo. and lived in many places including Rockville and Baltimore, Md., Palo Alto, Calif., New Orleans, Madison, Wis., Minneapolis and Boston.
She graduated from George Washington High School, received a bachelor of arts from San Francisco State College and a master of social work from the University of Maryland.
Beloved from beginning to the very end by her husband, children, grandchildren, and other family members, she dedicated herself to motherhood. She was widely considered a world class Nana and Mom. She was truly selfless, dedicating her life to supporting and nuturing her family. She never missed a school pick-up, game, swim meet or any of her children’s or grandchildren’s events. She was flawless in her dedication to their wellness, success and happiness.
She was also a tireless confidante to her family, as she was to so many others, often the first person to call for advice, reassurance and guidance. She asked for nothing in return.
Donna was kind and warm throughout her life and became a reminder to those around her of what is good in the human spirit. Her impact on others in that regard could never be properly depicted in words.
She was the matriarch of an impactful Boston medical family: her husband and both sons are cardiologists.
She loved Martha’s Vineyard and Palm Springs, Calif., where she spent considerable time. She cherished every minute spent at her house on Chappaquiddick, called Nana’s House, for 40 summers.
Her funeral will be held at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven on July 19 at 1 p.m. with interment to follow at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Cemetery.
Shiva will be held at the home of Brad and Jill Maron in Sharon on July 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation, P.O. Box 243, West Tisbury, MA 02575. Please indicate in the memo line that the donation is for the Chappaquiddick Community Center (CCC) Fund in memory of Donna Maron.
