William August Engler 4th died on Jan. 23 at the age of 25 after a valiant struggle with drug addiction and mental health issues.

August, as he was known, was born Sept. 13, 1998. He was a cherished son to William and Sharon Engler of Oak Bluffs and a beloved brother to 24-year-old Rose, 22-year-old Owen, 17-year-old Jack and 14-year-old Lucy.

His family mourns the loss of him. Despite their profound grief, his family remains committed to continuing the fight against the challenges August experienced. His battle also included a miraculous recovery from cardiac arrest and a deep coma, showcasing his incredible strength and resilience.

A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. at the Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs. His funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Vineyard Haven. A graveside gathering will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.

His family kindly requests donations to a scholarship fund established in August’s honor at bold.org. This scholarship supports students who have faced mental health and substance abuse challenges and are seeking to continue their education in college or trade school.
