Linda Joyce Atkinson, of Arlington and West Tisbury, died on May 18. She was 74.

Linda was born in Omaha, Ne. She grew up in a big family on the shores of a lake in Wayzata, Minn., where she began her life-long love of swimming.

She attended Northrop Collegiate in Minneapolis, before moving to Boston where she graduated from Boston University with a degree in communications in 1971.

After working as a producer for WEEI radio, she started her own public relations firm, and later ran the office of her husband’s architectural firm.

Throughout her life, Linda was actively involved in her community, always striving to leave things better than she found them. She found joy in bringing people together, was a wonderful cook and was particularly known for her annual Christmas Eve party that filled her house with friends, food and laughter.

Linda is survived by her husband, Edward Bing, two sons, Atty (Emily) and Jim (Allison), and her beloved grandkids Este, Griffin and Elliot. She leaves her siblings — Debra, James, Effort, Darcy and Chips — and was predeceased by her brother, Ace. She also leaves behind many, many dear friends, and will be sorely missed.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m. at First Church in Belmont Unitarian Universalist, 404 Concord avenue, Belmont, Ma. Parking is available in the Claflin Street public lot in Belmont Center.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ILD Collaborative, an organization dear to Linda, who helped spearhead their fundraising.
