Laurie Elizabeth Lindeen of Martha’s Vineyard died on July 1 of a brain aneurysm, at the age of 62.

Laurie was born in Champaign-Urbana to parents Lance Lindeen and Carol Rainey Lindeen. She grew up in Madison, Wis. and spent most of her adult life in Minneapolis. The last two and a half year she lived in Martha’s Vineyard with partner, James Diem.

She was a writer, author (Petal Pusher: A Rock & Roll Cinderella Story), educator, musician and an activist. Her accomplishments and accolades are too many to list.

Being a mother to her son Johnny was her greatest joy and she was so proud of the man he’s become.

Laurie was completely herself and she knew exactly who she was. She was a daydream believer and an instigator of mischief and merriment. She lived with MS for 40 years and handled it with grace, humor and tenacity. Her wisdom and guidance will be missed.

Laurie leaves behind her beloved son Johnny; partner James Diem and his family; father Lance Lindeen (Beverlee); siblings Megan Natzke (Pete), Hillary Benson (Dirk) and Christopher Lindeen; and close cousin Brittaney Smith (Chris Kane), in addition to her many nieces and nephews, cousins, her Petal sisters Coleen Elwood and Linda Pitmon, and countless friends and colleagues.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later time.
