Sandra Spielvogel, 87, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., formally of Oak Bluffs and Ridgewood, N.J. died on Feb. 15 in Franke at Seaside, Mount Pleasant, S.C. She was 87.
Sandra was born May 30, 1937, in Harrisburg, Pa., beloved daughter to Aaron and Esther Eisenberg, and sister to Debra Smith (Fred).
She was a brilliant scholar and dedicated teacher. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she met her beloved husband of 63 years, the late Dr. Arthur Spielvogel. She continued on to Columbia Teacher’s College and later to Middlebury Bread Loaf School of English where she received a master’s degree.
She taught at Paramus Catholic High School for over 25 years. After retirement, she volunteered, teaching on Martha’s Vineyard.
She was a devoted and loving wife to Art. Sandra was his caregiver for many years as Art battled Parkinson’s Disease.
She loved life to the fullest. She was a voracious reader and started book clubs wherever she lived. She loved the arts and music which she shared with her sons and grandchildren. She loved all people and animals, and with a caring heart, spread that love to all those who knew her. She will be sorely missed by all of us.
Sandra is survived by her two sons, Will Spielvogel (Lauren) of Sullivan’s Island, S.C., and Kenneth Spielvogel of Los Angeles, Calif.
She also leaves a legacy of five grandchildren, Carl Spielvogel (Juli), Andrew Spielvogel (Jess), Elisabeth Spielvogel, Carolyn Spielvogel, Davis Spielvogel and great grandson, Calvin Spielvogel.
The family will hold private services.
