Nancy Maginnis Davies of Vineyard Haven died on Tuesday April 29 at home with her daughter CC in Portland, Me. She was 92 years old.

Nancy’s spirit touched many who hope to continue her legacy of dedication to family, friends and faith.

She was born in New York, N.Y. on April 25, 1933 to Margaret August Maginnis and Thomas Conway Maginnis. She shared her childhood home with her older sister Peggy Singer, her younger brother Tommy Maginnis and her devoted cousins Susie Abell and TP August.

When her sister Peggy contracted polio, Nancy’s nieces and nephews joined the household, deepening lifelong bonds, particularly to her niece Ann who was her right hand in her older decades. This loving, bustling household set the tone for a lifetime of generosity and an expansive sense of family.

In February of 1971, she married George Edward Davies whom she has now joined in heaven. They started coming to the Island that summer to stay on Barnes Road with George’s cousin Ethel and her husband Ned Twombly. In 1982, they bought a home on Franklin street where they spent many happy summers.

She was a devout parishioner at St. Augustine’s and relished her year-round friendships with her summer friends there and at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club.

She is survived by her children, CC Davies Robinson (married to Lewis) of Portland, Me.;Anne Davies Singh (married to Pradeep) of Seattle, Wash.; and Gillian Davies (married to Aaron) of Acton.

She was predeceased by her son Patric Davies, whose eternal presence in her life deepened her faith and closeness with his widow Aracely, and her daughter Grace who was like a granddaughter to Nancy.

Nancy was cherished for her sense of humor and generosity by all of her grandchildren: Ethan and Forrest Pailes, Maisie and Leo Robinson, and Meera Singh. She will be missed by a large and international circle of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends from New York to Martha’s Vineyard and Miami to Managua.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband George at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts on Tuesday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m.
