Warren Joseph Combra, Sr., of Vernon, Conn., died on May 7, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82. Warren was born on Oct. 3, 1942, in Oak Bluffs, to Joseph and Ruth Combra.
He attended Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School before proudly serving in the United States Air Force. As a member of the air police in the Strategic Air Command (S.A.C.), he was entrusted with guarding aircraft during his military service.
Following his time in the Air Force, he continued to serve others as a volunteer firefighter in Oak Bluffs. His professional journey included roles at Pratt & Whitney, the United States Post Office, and later as a mechanic at Manchester Country Club.
He lived life to the fullest and always found a reason to laugh. His smile was contagious. He unapologetically followed his own path and lived his life authentically. He found joy in the everyday moments: cooking, camping with family and friends, watching Red Sox games, sharing a drink with friends at the numerous social clubs where he was a member, or eating every flavor ice cream — especially at Ben & Bills.
He was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal and brave. He was clever and filled with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. He could fix or build anything.
He was predeceased by his son Dwayne Mott, as well as his sisters Dorothy (Dot) Maseda, Patricia (Jane) Maseda, and Gladys Welch.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Maxey (Merriam) Combra, and their children: Barbara Almeida and her husband Tony, Wanda Melville and her husband Mike, Wendy Hatcher and her husband Dave, Warren Combra Jr. and his wife Tanya, and Sherry Scagnelli and her husband Rick.
He will be lovingly remembered by his 10 grandchildren: Jason Pelletier, Amanda Hart, Travis Nichelson, Jesse Mott, Carrie Mott, Tara Villeneuve, Erin Villeneuve, Desiree Villeneuve, Taylor Daniels and Robby Scagnelli; and 14 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Charles Combra and numerous nieces and nephews.
Warren will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them. He carried himself with dignity, strength and full of love for those around him. He will be missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date with details to be determined.
