The Island in the early morning is a different place this time of year - quiet, still, foggy at the edges, washed clean of any summer resort merrymaking from the night before. The neighborhoods will stir and slowly fill with a colorful assortment of summer residents, tourists and workaday Islanders. Soon the beaches will be dotted with vacationers seeking cool, salty refuge.
