The 200-foot tall ship Oliver Hazard Perry paid a visit to Vineyard Haven Harbor this week. Timothy Johnson took pictures of the vessel as the sun was setting Wednesday night, and Mark Lovewell captured the ship as she departed at sunrise.

The fully-rigged new ship is the largest civilian sailing school vessel in the United States and is used for educational voyages for all ages. Her home port is Newport, R.I.

The Oliver Hazard Perry has seven miles of rope, 20 sails, and 14,000-square-feet of sail.  She is named for Oliver Hazard Perry, a naval hero of the War of 1812.

The Oliver Hazard perry stopped by Vineyard Haven as part of a 12-day sailing trip for teenagers. The ship departed on July 31 from Boston and will arrive in Portsmouth, N.H. on August 11.
