Nearly 80 kids are now part of 11 4-H clubs on the Island, each with its own focus and guidance from volunteers from local farms and environmental organizations.
The Katama Cowpokes are one of several Island 4-H clubs meeting regularly. The group met this past Sunday at the Ag Hall with Carol Soule to practice brushing, bridling and yoking their cows.
Revitalizing 4-H on the Island began five years ago, led by Brian Athearn and Julie Scott, president and vice president of the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society. Much of the focus this year is on increasing off-season offerings.
