Aquinnah voters closed out the Island political season with a bang Tuesday night, packing the old town hall for their annual town meeting and handing resounding approval to the Martha’s Vineyard Housing Bank.

Aquinnah voters will wrap up the political season on the Vineyard this week when they gather for their annual town meeting and election, deciding on an array of spending measures, including two budget overrides and a package of cutting-edge alternative energy initiatives.

Voters zipped through their annual town meeting Tuesday afternoon, approving every article on the warrant. The lone flashpoint was over legal spending.

Islanders are set to vote in two historic town meetings and one town election in their own version of super Tuesday today, as West Tisbury and Aquinnah look to certify budgets while Tisbury decides a three-way race for a seat on its select board. Polls are open in Tisbury from noon to 8 p.m.

A level-funded budget and money for the continued restoration of the Gay Head Light are on the agenda when Aquinnah convenes its annual town meeting Tuesday.

Aquinnah voters approved a hefty Proposition 2 1/2 override at the ballot box on Wednesday, one night after packing their annual town meeting to argue over everything from the town budget to a ban on single-use plastic bottles.

Aquinnah voters approved a $375,000 Proposition 2 1/2 override and re-elected selectman Gary Haley to another three-year term at the annual town election Wednesday. The override was approved 72-41, allowing the town to balance its budget in a year when finances are tight.

Facing a slew of weighty financial issues, Aquinnah is set to close out the Island’s annual town meeting season Tuesday.
