Camp Jabberwocky welcomed its first group of summer campers to Vineyard Haven Tuesday morning, in a joyous dockside reunion that annually signals the full arrival of summer on the Island.
The Camp Jabberwocky community turned out in force Tuesday afternoon to honor one of the camp’s most stalwart and best-loved volunteers, Jack Knower, who died at 71 last October.

Camp Jabberwocky counselors dressed in high style to greet July campers as they arrived by ferry. After hugs and hellos they all headed up to camp to begin a busy month of activities, beach trips and a summer play.
As the first Camp Jabberwocky campers arrived on-Island Sunday morning, a camper leaned over the ferry railing and pumped his fists in the air. “Are you ready?” Seth called out from high above on the boat.
Camp Jabberwocky’s new executive director, Hilary Dreyer, is a homegrown Islander known for her work with the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival and, more recently, the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation.
Camp Jabberwocky is once again looking for an executive director after the resignation of Adam Perry, who was hired earlier this year to replace former director Liza Gallagher.
