Halloween Party to Benefit Community Services

The Chicken Alley Thrift Shop of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services is throwing a Halloween party on Oct. 31 beginning at 9 p.m. at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs. Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 in advance and proceeds benefit community services.

Music will be provided by DJ Pretty Ninja, Teo-reidy and Antler Boy and there will be prizes for costumes.

Her bright red hair, positive welcome at the door and ability to assemble a team of enthusiastic volunteers is a large part of the charm of the store. But after 15 years of working as a comanager with Sandy Pratt, Mrs. Campbell is retiring.

A New Shop Girl for Chicken Alley

The 1942 Willys MB Army Jeep parked in front of The Thrift Shop on Chicken Alley in Vineyard Haven is authentic and used, but it’s not for sale. It’s the car that Noava Knight, the new shop assistant at the store, drives to work.

Five days a week, Ms. Knight, 26, hops out of the Jeep her boyfriend purchased on the Cape and strolls into the shop. She greets her colleagues, most of them more than 40 years her senior, and gets to work reorganizing, advertising and planning.
