For 33 years the Vineyard Conservation Society has hosted the Island’s largest beach cleanup to honor Earth Day and raise awareness about the dangers of plastics in the ocean.
Here on the Vineyard, the Island celebrates its 33rd Earth Day with a host of activities on Saturday, April 19, including a beach clean-up and an after-party at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.
Scores of beachcombers fanned out across the shores of Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday, for the 32nd annual Earth Day beach cleanup event, coordinated by the Vineyard Conservation Society.
Monday is Earth Day, number 54 since it began in 1970, and so it is appropriate to push off from indoor activities and turn one’s eyes to dirt and grass, sky and sea.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum was alive with activity Saturday afternoon as it hosted its first Earth Day Conservation Festival, a four-hour celebration of the Island’s natural environment.
Invest In Our Planet is the official theme for the 53rd annual celebration of Earth Day on April 22, and the Island’s conservation agencies, nonprofits and libraries are creating a diverse array of activities for Islanders to do just that.
