Chilmark voters approved a change to the town line, but not before an amendment was added on the town meeting floor that will keep Aquinnah, the smallest town on the Island, from losing any more land. At stake was 300 feet.
The Vanderhoop fishing shack in Menemsha has been the subject of an emotional year-long debate in Aquinnah. The case involves a tangle of small town relationships as well as laws pertaining to property rights and contracts.
The oldest fishing shack in Menemsha is now under the stewardship of the town of Aquinnah, at least for the short term. The Aquinnah selectmen voted 2-1 Tuesday night to take possession of what is known as the Alfred Vanderhoop shack.
