Festival-goers crowded the walkway Saturday between the Oak Bluffs Harbor and East Chop Drive to enjoy food, shop, listen to music, and get free tickets to see their favorite collegiate baseball team.

The 23rd annual Harbor Festival rolls into Oak Bluffs on Saturday and it’s one part music, two parts local crafts, a flurry of food, a pinch of antiques, a dash of something you always wanted to do and see but didn’t know it yet.

The real kick-off to the Oak Bluffs summer season, which precedes the monster shark fest and all the other festivities that make Oak Bluffs the hub of the party wheel, is coming up this weekend. The annual Oak Bluffs Harbor Festival is on Saturday, June 22.

Harbor Festival Sets Stage for Summer

There is no single event that signals the start of summer on the
Island. Something different moves each person to say the season is
finally here: the ripening of strawberries and sweet peas, the first
farmers' market or maybe the first true beach day. That something
could also be the Oak Bluffs Harbor Festival. Falling the day after the
official start of summer, the festival's timing qualifies it as
another sign of the season.

Tomorrow is party time in Oak Bluffs. From noon well into night, the town will celebrate the arrival of summer. There will be fireworks at night, a show that organizers say will rival the way Oak Bluffs celebrates the end of summer in August.

The day marks the merger of two big events in the season: the first day of summer, and the 17th annual Harbor Festival.

Even on a gray Monday after noon in mid-June, with a cool wind blowing off the sea, Oak Bluffs still feels like the place you want to be. Circuit avenue is crowded with everyone from teenagers to seniors all looking for that special memento; wherever you lie on the spectrum, you can find a place for yourself, and something you want.

Oak Bluffs Harbor Festival, Faeries Too

Harbors are for boats, right? Not necessarily. This Saturday, Oak Bluffs Harbor will be packed with food, faeries, and fireworks.

The annual Harbor Festival, celebrating the summer solstice and approaching season, starts with a stretch of over 40 vendors selling arts, crafts, antiques and food. There will also be non-profits talking about their missions and plenty of live music.
