A U.S. Coast Guard plan to remove hundreds of navigation buoys in the northeast, including about 20 around the Vineyard, Woods Hole and Gosnold, has raised concerns with some Island mariners. 

Hundreds of people gathered at Waterfront Park in Woods Hole Friday as part of the Stand Up for Science rallies held around the world in response to the Trump administration’s federal funding cuts in scientific research and diversity equity and inclusion initiatives.

The mass firing of probationary employees at federal agencies and other cuts by the Trump administration reached the epicenter of marine research for the Cape and Islands last week.

A Woods Hole nonprofit has purchased the longtime home of NPR radio station WCAI, although the station’s parent company says it is still looking for a new location for the Cape and Islands station.
