With budget season underway, the six town community preservation committees are reviewing an array of regional projects that range from the relocation of the Gay Head Light in Aquinnah to a Little League baseball field in Oak Bluffs.
Perhaps it was only fitting that the public hearing before the Martha’s Vineyard Commission on a plan to expand the baseball field at Veira Park last Thursday took place during game five of the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians.
And both Jacobs Field in Cleveland and in the Olde Stone Building in Oak Bluffs saw their fair share of tense moments.
What seemed like a simple, homespun plan to improve and expand the
baseball field at Veira Park in Oak Bluffs has evolved into an
acrimonious bureaucratic tangle pitting a group of Little Leaguers
against a group of neighbors worried about noise and traffic.
