Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lincoln Shugrue of Katama are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Hillary Greene Shugrue, to Daniel Paquette.

Sunday, Jan. 25, marks the 108th anniversary of changing the town’s name from Cottage City to Oak Bluffs. Our population of 672 persons in 1880 grew to 1,245 by 1915.

What can one say about this crazy weather? One day you are unfreezing your car and the next day you are opening the windows because it is so warm.

It has been cold and miserable enough to close the Dumptique until March. The focus of the day other than the usual dump run was the Patriots football game to most everyone.

If I didn’t have Molly Glasgow of the Grey Barn and Farm in my life I would never have known that Jan. 20 is National Cheese Lovers Day.

After 25 years, Daisy Kimberly's Alley Cat is about to sound its last purr as the eclectic Main street boutique in Vineyard Haven is set to close. Mrs. Kimberly said the store will close its doors for good on Jan. 31.

The few cats prowling around the animal shelter are patiently waiting for visitors and/or new owners.

The fact that we have not had a significant snowfall is a little disconcerting this time of the year, and it is as if we just sit waiting for a little snow to make us realize this is wintertime.

This past week has produced five species not seen on the Christmas Bird Count: American kestrel, redpoll, bald eagle, redhead and piping plover.
