Silver Linings is the theme for the next community art show at Featherstone Center for the Arts, opening April 5. The Art of Flowers follows in May.

Vineyard-born artist Max Decker tends to mold his artistic personality to match his environment. His Island summers inspire classic landscape paintings, but come fall, his return to his home in Brooklyn seems to trigger a more aggressive and figurative form of expression.
“I guess by osmosis, what’s around you is kind of what you start producing,” said the artist. “When I’m in New York, it’s kind of loud. Here [on the Island], I get a little more atmospheric, a little more subdued.”
There are unmistakable signs of Gary Mottau’s artwork nestled throughout the rolling up-Island countryside on Abel’s Hill in Chilmark. They blend with their environment, just as he intended; that is his art, his ability to take a cue from nature and create exquisite sanctuaries from wood, stone and seed.
His artwork extends to other media as well; a collection of his wired drawings, which he describes as “three dimensional line drawings,” are on display at Carol Craven Gallery in Vineyard Haven.
The Carol Craven Gallery has announced a new exhibition, featuring painters Derek Buckner, John Evans and Ben Shattuck, and sculptor Gary Mottau, running from June 24 to July 3.
White Ginger’s annual Trunk Show and Sale on the Island begins today, Friday, June 19, at Beach street extension in Vineyard Haven (next to Tropical Restaurant, across from the Black Dog Tavern).
White Ginger owners Mary Miller and Katherine Young offer items they have chosen on trips to in China alongside their own line of silk clothing, an extensive selection of embroidered tunics, and a range of pieces in cotton. Their luxurious hand-woven silks and cottons mix and match for any occasion, whether as a cover after a swim or a formal evening event.
Mother/Daughter Art Show
Mother and daughter artists, Gloria and Jennifer Burkin have a show of their new work, at The Martha’s Vineyard Bank at Bettlebung Corner in Chilmark, running from June 12 to June 19.
Both artists will be exhibiting and selling their work throughout the summer at the Chilmark Flea Market on Saturdays, and Tuesdays at the Featherstone Flea Market in Oak Bluffs.
