John Powell Exhibition
The Christina Gallery, located on the corner of North Water and Winter streets in Edgartown, has announced an exhibition of work by John Powell. Running August 6 to 20, the exhibition will feature original oil paintings by the artist. Additionally, there will be an artist’s reception in the gallery on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Artisans’ Festival on the Cliffs
This Saturday, July 25, the Aquinnah Cultural Center will host their third annual All Native Artisans’ Festival atop Moshup’s masterpiece, the Gay Head Cliffs. Pottery, basketry, painted leathers, dolls, silver jewelry and, of course, plenty of wampum will be on offer, as well as a chance to learn about Martha’s Vineyard Wampanoag culture and history. Leslie Baker Exhibit
Leslie Baker: Landscapes and Studies is the name of the spotlight solo show that opened July 23 and will continue through August 6 at the Shaw Cramer Gallery at 56 Main street in Vineyard Haven. Ms. Baker is an Island artist, and, having taught at the college level, is accomplished working in a variety of mediums and subjects. This includes oil on canvas, watercolor, drawing and monotypes of landscapes, still lifes, portraits and book illustrations.
Andrew Moore Exhibition
Andrew Moore’s show Paintings from the Coast opens Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m. with a reception that afternoon from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Andrew Moore Gallery in Harthaven, Oak Bluffs.
The Gallery is open Wednesdays and Sundays 10 to 5 p.m. from July 26 to Sept. 7 or by appointment anytime, year-round. A realist painter working in oil and watercolor, Mr. Moore paints the landscape of Martha’s Vineyard and coastal Maine and the many creatures that inhabit these areas.
MV Islander Exhibit
Vineyarders and visitors have another chance for a last ride on the iconic and beloved MV Islander ferry boat, at the West Chop Club where photographer John Budris is showing some of his rare and favorite photographs of the vessel and her crew through July 29. The exhibition is open to the public. Mr. Budris will donate all proceeds from the exhibition to charities benefiting families of veterans wounded or killed in action and children with cancer.
Les Femmes, a painting/collage exhibit by Jeanette Demeestère, is at the Chilmark Public Library from July 25 to August 14, with an opening reception this Saturday, July 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. An artist who lives in Paris, France, Ms.Demeestère has spent every summer in Chilmark for the past 15 years with her family at their home off Middle Road. She is kn own for her portraits and collages, rendered in watercolor, pastel (both oil and dry), charcoal and collage; as well as her soft, muted colors and strong fine lines.
