Silver Linings is the theme for the next community art show at Featherstone Center for the Arts, opening April 5. The Art of Flowers follows in May.
The Carol Craven Gallery has hung its latest exhibition, featuring artwork by gallery artists J. Christian Snedeker, Nancy Furino, Rita Stern, Roger Phillips, Claire Chalfoun, Ann Grandin, John Evans, Gretchen Feldman and others.
There is a selection of American Modernist works by Benton, Gropper, Curry, Grosz and Lawrence, as well as paintings by South African artists Beezy Bailey and Usen Obot. Also featured is a major pastel by renowned artist David Hollowell, and a marvelous print by Faith Ringgold.
A retrospective exhibition of watercolor works by well-traveled West Tisbury artist Ann Howes opens tomorrow at Featherstone Center for the Arts, including pieces from her past painting trips abroad, across the United States and the Island. í
There are landmarks in an artist’s career. First there’s the initial sale of a piece of work. Then comes inclusion in a group show and, with any luck (and, of course, talent), the solo show. But the crowning glory arrives — often, alas, posthumously — when the artist’s work is presented in the hallowed halls of a museum.

Works in all media will be considered for the show, which will open in October at the gallery located on State Road in West Tisbury, opposite Up-Island Cronig’s market.

In the spirit of the Vineyard and the 63rd derby exhibiting artists celebrate, in various media, the Island, its natural beauty and all aspects of fish and derby fishing.
Deborah Silliman Wass will showcase her handiworks of calligraphy and illuminations for the month of September at the West Tisbury Library.
Mrs. Wass studied at the Yestermorrow Design/Build School and is the former art director at the Mobil Corporation’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. She founded Martha’s Vineyard Calligraphy and Illumination and currently lives in Chilmark with her husband.
