Derby fever is highly contagious.

September. It may seem to many that July and August are the busy months.

I’ll be honest because honesty is the best policy. I wasn’t sure I had it in me to compose a column this week.

Part of me says make life easy, jot a few simple words down that really captures the essence of this week and call it a day. Those words would be: GO TO THE FAIR.

What comes along with hazy, hot and humid August days seems virtually inescapable until you savor fresh berries straight from the bush or submerge yourself in the salty ocean.

Come early August, the fields are usually ready for their second cut. Although less bales are produced, it is richer in nutrients and gives off a sweeter smell.
