The Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club received a million-dollar boost to its capital campaign for a new, expanded clubhouse and grounds in Edgartown.

Sixteen of the Vineyard’s graduating high school seniors have been awarded a total of $946,000 in scholarships from MVYouth, a community fund established in 2014.

Administered by Martha’s Vineyard Community Services and funded by MVYouth, a new initiative is underway to increase the number of licensed home childcare programs on the Island.

At an intimate gathering at the West Tisbury library Tuesday evening, MVYouth awarded $750,000 to two Island nonprofits, bringing the foundation’s total giving to over $14 million since its inception in 2014.

Ever since middle school Charlie Parkhurst knew he wanted to go to college in California. He had never been there but liked adventures and the idea of living on the west coast excited him. His dream came true when he was accepted to the University of California Los Angeles to be part of the class of 2019.

The MV Youth community fund announced Thursday that it has awarded $865,000 in college and workforce scholarships to 16 high school seniors.
