2008

The Holmes Hole Sailing Association continued its summer season of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven harbor with a Thursday night race on July 3 and two harbor races on July 6. 

Thursday night was overcast with the threat of rain, and a 10-knot southwest wind. Six boats posted for the start at red nun 6 outside of the Vineyard Haven harbor breakwater.

Finishing first was Bob Jewett in his Soling, Andiamo II. In second was Dan Culkin in the Vineyard Vixen, Magic Time. In third was Jerry Goodale in the Pearson 31, Stormalong.

The Holmes Hole Sailing Association has launched its series of handicap sailboat races from Vineyard Haven harbor.

On Sunday, the association held its Robinson’s Hole Rendezvous Race. Robinson’s Hole is a passage from Vineyard Sound to Buzzards Bay at the west end of Naushon Island.

It was a mostly sunny morning with a brisk southwest wind filling in for the 10 a.m. start outside of the Vineyard Harbor breakwater. Six boats posted for the start.

Begin Summer Season

The Holmes Hole Sailing Association started its summer season of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven harbor with a tune-up race in the harbor on June 15.

 The weather was cool, with a gray overcast sky and intermittent rain. The wind was east-northeast at about eight to 15 knots. Four skippers posted at the start. The race committee opted for a 5.3-mile course.

Summer Race Schedule

The Holmes Hole Sailing Association has announced its schedule of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven harbor for the summer season.

The association will be sponsoring a series of 24 races, in a variety of formats, beginning with a tune-up race in Vineyard or Nantucket Sound on June 15 and concluding with the annual George Moffett Memorial Race on Sept. 6.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Mabel made it.

They pulled away from the Coastwise Packet Wharf in Vineyard Haven on Friday, June 13, their oars waggling a bit uncertainly in the air and in the water. Seven days later - late on Friday afternoon - they put the bow of their boat on the shore of a cove some 30 miles north of Manhattan and dropped themselves a bit unsteadily onto hard sand shaded by weeping willows at a park on the Hudson River.
