The Polly Hill Arboretum and the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center are coming together to bring The Fruit Hunters to the screen on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the film center at the Tisbury Marketplace. This cinematic odyssey through the jungles of Borneo and the hills of Umbria, to name a few, follows an obsessed few determined to save rare and exotic fruit from becoming extinct through overdevelopment and agrobusiness concerns. Bill Pullman stars as himself.

Polly Hill Arboretum offers a way to get outdoors and explore the off season on the grounds.
A chance to clean up the grounds and then a later opportunity to check out the night sky with amateur astronomer Barbara Caseau is coming up Thursday, Oct. 24 at Polly Hill Arboretum. Grounds volunteer day is from 9 a.m. to noon and is a basic fall sprucing-up event. Bring gloves and dress for the weather.

Marlene Snecinski, also known as Mushroom Marlene, leads a fall walk foraging for wild mushrooms at Polly Hill Arboretum in West Tisbury on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. She will point out fun fungi facts and discuss mycophagy along the way.

It’s all about Brooklyn at the Polly Hill Arboretum on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Chris Roddick, senior arborist at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden kicks it off with a talk about pruning techniques and tool maintenance from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a hands-on demonstration and a chance to practice newly learned pruning prowess. Bring hand pruners if you have them. Cost for this event is $20 or $10 if you’re a member of Polly Hill.
