Polly Hill Arboretum and The Grey Barn will host a two-part fruit tree pruning workshop. Part one will be on March 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer basic fruit tree anatomy as well as tree shape and structure planning. The class will focus on apples, cherries, peaches and pears.
The class will begin with a lecture at the arboretum and then move to the Grey Barn Farm’s orchard for the hands-on portion.
Bring a lunch, work gloves, safety glasses, and dress for the weather. The Arboretum will provide pruners, saws, loppers and ladders.
Part two will take place on June 22 and cover fruit tree management and growth control techniques.
