A marshmallow world on Main Street Edgartown. Mark Lovewell

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

A January blizzard lashed the Island late Monday into Tuesday, bringing driving snow and howling winds. Wind gusts of up to 77 miles per hour were recorded in Vineyard Haven and 16 inches of snow documented in Edgartown. Except for a few hardy explorers, the Island was largely empty Tuesday as Vineyarders stayed safe inside to wait out the storm.

Love Martha's Vineyard!.....one of my favorite places to visit!! I experienced the Blizzard of 67 in Chicago.....stay inside, grab a cup of hot coffee and enjoy the view. Stay safe and warm!

Schools out and the kids are making the most of it. Great hills for sledding.

Missing the beauty of the Vineyard even as it is snow covered. Was there for 2007 storm and saw the Vineyard in its snow glory.

Glad to see the island "weathered it" well. I am wondering if there was any flooding on harbor side properties, like Nantucket. Stay warm and dry!

Amazed and awed by the power of the snow, but feeling smug in a bathing suit in the Southern Hemisphere where we are experiencing the reverse kind of weather.
