An encore performance of Maureen Hourihan’s trilogy of short plays, Slow Train Coming, preceded by Arlene Bodge reading selections from her writings about memory loss, should make for a special evening at the Vineyard Playhouse this weekend.

Ms. Hourihan’s theatrical tribute to her father, who had Alzheimer’s, is being performed ahead of the Vineyard’s annual Miles of Memories walk on Sunday, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Services of Cape Cod and the Islands.

Slow Train Coming begins Saturday at 7 p.m. at the playhosue at 24 Church Street in downtown Vineyard Haven. It follows the journey of one family coping with the realities of Alzheimer’s. Playhouse artistic director M.J. Bruder Munafo directs the show, which features Clark Maffitt, BeeBee Horowitz Kendall, Paul Munafo and Victoria Campbell in a fully staged reading. Slow Train Coming was performed as part of the playhouse’s Island Interludes festival this past spring.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to Alzheimer’s Services of Cape Cod and the Islands; money raised remains in the area to fund a telephone helpline, support groups and respite care services.
