Gazette contributing photographer and Chilmark resident Peter Simon has published a new book, The Reggae Scrapbook. It’s an 11 X 12 coffee table book with more than 300 photos, an authoritative text by co-author Roger Steffans, and much splashy reggaemobilia such as stickers, ticket stubs, posters and album covers, some of which are detachable.
Mr. Simon spent time in Jamaica last winter with his son Willie gathering new material to combine with his previous documentations. Also included in the new book is an hour-long DVD consisting of various interviews with leading reggae artists, new and old. A longtime reggae fanatic, Peter Simon has made The Reggae Scrapbook a definitive collection of over 30 years’ worth of material.
To celebrate this recent publication, The Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York city today opens a solo show of his iconic photographs, with a book signing from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Mr. Simon will also be signing his new book, calendar and Vineyard Sound at the Artisan’s Festival over Thanksgiving weekend at the agricultural hall, and at Outerland on that Friday night in between sets of the reggae band known as Prezident Brown. For more information, see petersimon.com.
