Chilmark enjoyed a clear Christmas Eve with a full moon outshining all of the holiday lights around town. A brisk wind made the annual Christmas Day beach walks an invigorating experience. The coming week promises to be uneventful as the children enjoy their vacation and family reunions continue throughout the New Year’s celebration.
The Friends of the Chilmark Library hosted a most successful holiday party this past week. Music was provided by a brass band consisting of Shauna Nute, trumpet; Ladislav Navratil, trumpet; Frank Dunkl, double bell euphonium; Peter Dunkl, French horn; William Aitken, trombone; and Robert Maxwell, tuba. They played many traditional holiday songs to a large and appreciative audience. We all thank them for their efforts.
The Chilmark Community Church will host an adult study group led by the Rev. Vicky Hanjian beginning on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 9:45 a.m. in the Chilmark Fellowship Hall. Church and community members are invited to come and study together. If you are interested, please get in touch with Ann Deitrich at 508-645-9506.
Remember that today, Friday, Dec. 28 is the last day for town commission budget requests. They are due at town hall.
The Vineyard Haven library will host the Sustainable Book Club meeting on Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited. The discussion will be on Shirley Mayhew’s book, Seasons of a Vineyard Pond.
We all send best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mary Larsen who suffered an unfortunate fall last week.
Jonathan and Joanna Cole enjoyed Christmas at their home on the South Road for the first time. They were here with family members Nonnie and Gabe and Dan and Nick. Family friend Nancy Dunbar joined them. She now lives in Homer, N.Y., but still enjoys her Vineyard visits. The Coles hope to begin a new annual tradition of Christmas in Chilmark.
Jan. 19 is the date for the next flea market at the Chilmark Community Center. It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information, please call Coco Adams at 508-645-3414 for more information.
Please make a New Year’s resolution to e-mail me with Chilmark and family happenings and events. We all enjoy knowing what everyone else is doing. I wish you all a happy and safe New Year.
